Edit and Prepare Task Sequence

• Update Settings package
  • Edit CustomSettings.ini
  • Add DoCapture=YES to Default section
• Edit the Capture Account and password
  • The password is not stored correctly in the original version of MDT. It must be edited to save the correct information after a task sequence is created. That is fixed in the new version.

• Edit the "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" task to identify the site server. This is required to have Software Updates apply successfully
  • Add line to Installation Properties with "SMSSLP=siteserver SMSMP=siteserver"

• Make any other changes to tasks or settings as neede. Note that the MDT team says:
  • With the exception of the Enable Bitlocker task, the task sequence items are meant to run and complete in either scenario (image creation or deployment) and ignore any errors. You can definitely disable the USMT tasks if you choose but it is not really required. We tried to make it so you had to do very little customization for either scenario.

• To add Software Distribution packages to a reference image
  • Select the Install Software task under State Restore, and enter the desired data. Add task sequence variables in the Options tab.

• Add Distribution Points
  • Use DP for location where reference machine will be created
  • Add newly created packages, boot image (including automatic ones if used) and OS Image to desired DPs
  • Note, must refresh to see new entries)
  • Packages are under Software Distribution

  • Boot image and OS Install package are under OS Deployment

• Wait for propagation to complete before proceeding
  • Refresh the Settings package, any other packages that were updated, and finally Task Sequence to help prevent hash errors.
